Sanjay Sharma was born in Khera Kalan, a small village in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab on May 3 1971. His family struggled all their lives after his parents had to immigrate from their native place Juni Dhani Chak near Jammu because of the partition of the Indian subcontinent after independence in 1947. After completing his high school studies at the local Government Senior Secondary School he went on to attend Sardar Patel College of Engineering and Technology where he first met his wife Alka Sharma whom he married in 1992.
